‘What happened to Greek population?

I don’t think we have any evidence of a greek population in the region beyond the antiquity. They either left, or integrated in the local culture, and contrarily to Egypte or the region of Carthage, it seems that the local christians all converted to Islam. It’s still possible that christian communities maintainted themselves in the cities or among the Berber tribes for some time and we just didn’t find the evidence, however it’s quite unlikely given the size of the populations in the area. And anyway, they wouldn’t speak Greek, but either a romance language (like in the former province of Africa), or a berber language. In any case, the greek presence in Cyrenaica is long gone.

Let’s keep in mind that Cyrenaica wasn’t very populated to begin with, and it was more heavily romanized (meaning, latin became more common than greek) than Egypt for example’
